    Review Main

    KDP Involvement

I am fairly new to KDP, having only been in my doctoral program for about 6 months now. My plan is to become a high school educator, preferably in a STEM field like mathematics or computer science. I am currently an instructional laboratory technician in the physics department at Mt. San Jacinto College and volunteer as a tutor for EnCorps as a middle school math tutor.

I have recently applied to the EnCorps STEM Teachers Fellowship Program, which recruits career-changing STEM professionals interested in teaching in an under-resourced community. Through my doctorate program and my career beyond, I wish to be active in KDP leadership and a frequent volunteer for any local or online KDP activities.

    Scholarship Essay

In my doctorate program in educational psychology and technology, with a K-12 educaioon technology concentration, my dissertation will mainly focus on teachers’ and students’ perceptions on using large language models like ChatGPT as a teaching assistant and student study aid. This area of study can have a big impact on the theoretical and practical development of policy and techniques and the scholarly extension of this field.

As a doctoral candidate, I’ll get advanced knowledge and skills in using AI-enhanced technology in education. With this knowledge, I can help develop policies and techniques that will enhance the learning experience of students in grades K-12.

The ability to design and implement educational technology programs and interventions based on AI principles is one of the practical applications of this doctoral degree. For example, I may be able to design AI-powered adaptive learning platforms that personalize students’ learning experiences based on their individual needs and preferences. It may also be possible for me to develop AI-powered assessment tools that analyze student performance data to give teachers and students personalized feedback.

In addition to practical applications, a doctorate in educational psychology and technology with a focus on artificial intelligence can help me expand scholarly knowledge and understanding of the implications of large language models like ChatGPT for K-12 classes. It will also help me to contribute to the development of new theories, models, and frameworks that will guide the design and evaluation of AI-powered education programs.

During my research I will focus on how AI-powered adaptive learning platforms affect student learning outcomes. Additionally, I will investigate AI’s ethical and social implications in education, such as its potential for bias and discrimination. As a result of my research, evidence-based educational policies and guidelines can be developed.

Furthermore, a doctoral degree in educational psychology and technology with an emphasis on artificial intelligence will prepare me for leadership roles in developing and implementing educational technology policies. Graduating from this program will give me the opportunity to influence policy in educational institutions, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. My training will also allow me to contribute to the professional development of other educators by advising them on how to effectively use AI-powered educational technology in their own work.

In closing, my research in this doctoral program promises to have a big impact on how we use and perceive AI-enhanced solutions. It will help inform practical and theoretical policies and techniques and expand the scholarly work in this area. Through this program, I’ll gain advanced knowledge and skills to design and implement AI-powered education programs and interventions that enhance students’ learning experiences in K-12 classrooms.

The development of evidence-based policies and guidelines for using AI in education through research and scholarly activities is one of my aspirations. In addition to developing and implementing educational technology policies and programs, I will also be preparing to become a leader in the field. In general, this degree offers many possibilities for practical application and scholarly extension and can help me make significant contributions to the development of educational technology policies and techniques.

Dear Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society,

It is my pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Frank Jamison for the Ralph W. Tyler Laureate Doctoral Scholarship. He is an exceptional scholar who advances the field with his teaching and service.

I know Frank from his time in my qualitative research course at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Frank first stood out when he demonstrated his deep understanding and analysis of AI tools and ChatGPT. His work in the course demonstrated understanding of research design and excellent writing ability. His papers are suitable for publication, given his advanced use of language and the skilled method in which he communicates.

His teaching skills are evident in his work as a lab technician at Mt. San Jacinto College. In this role, Frank goes above and beyond to support student academic and social-emotional outcomes. With his consistent support and teaching, he assists over 50 students in laboratory activities. He believes in the full potential of students and supports them in a holistic manner. This is also evident in his work as a StemX tutor, where he works with lowincome students to support them in developing math skills.

Frank also holds many leadership roles. In addition to his teaching position, he serves as an APA district 15 policy liaison to Oregon state, holds the senate treasurer position at Mt. San Jacinto college, and is an equal employment opportunity advisory committee member at Mt. San Jacinto college. In these roles, Frank engages in advocacy, development, implementation and evaluation of association and college initiatives. His ability to balance many roles and responsibilities is evident.

Most notable is Frank’s energy and passion for learning and supporting students in their educational paths. Frank stands out as a teacher who loves what he does and is excited to work in education and use technology to improve student outcomes.

On a personal level, Frank is a highly collaborative and respectful individual. His team approach, in addition to his commitment to students, makes him a valued team member. His knowledge of student development, coupled with his interest in evidence-based practices in education and technology, make him an outstanding candidate for the scholarship.

It is with pleasure that I recommend Frank Jamison. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Respectfully,
